Ensure A Smooth Moving Day!

Moving day can feel overwhelming; but with the right preparation, it doesn’t have to be. The more organized you are before the movers arrive, the smoother, faster, and less stressful the day will be. Plus, efficiency often saves money since moving companies typically charge by the hour.
Here are six ways to make your moving day as efficient as possible:

1. Know What You Do (and Don’t) Want to TakeBefore the movers show up, make sure you’ve decided which items are coming with you and which aren’t. Getting rid of unwanted furniture, clothes, or clutter before moving day saves time, space, and money. The last thing you want is to pay for movers to transport items you no longer need.

2. Have Items Cleared Off and Ready to GoTake a few minutes to prep your belongings so they’re ready to move. This means:
  • Removing clothes from the top of dressers

  • Clearing items off tables and shelves

  • Unplugging and detaching cords from electronics

The more streamlined your items are, the faster your movers can safely load them.

3. Have Parking Spaces and Entry/Exits ClearOne of the biggest time-wasters on moving day is poor access. Reserve parking for the truck in advance, clear driveways, and make sure doors, hallways, and staircases are free of obstacles. The closer and easier the access, the quicker your movers can get everything in and out.

4. Put Pets Away Before Movers ArriveWe love pets, but moving day can be stressful for them, and unsafe if they’re underfoot. Set aside a secure, quiet space for your pets or arrange for a friend, family member, or kennel to care for them while the movers work. It keeps both your pets and your movers safe.

5. If You’re Self-Packing, Be Completely PackedIf you’re doing your own packing, make sure everything is packed before moving day. Boxes should be taped shut, lids closed, and items packed tightly so they can be stacked securely in the truck. Loose or half-packed items slow the movers down and may end up costing you more.

6. Go Over Logistics with Your Move CoordinatorFinally, communication is key. Confirm details with your move coordinator before the big day. Things like timing, addresses, parking, and any special instructions are crucial for the team to know prior to arriving at your home. A quick review ensures everyone is on the same page and helps prevent delays or confusion.

Final ThoughtsEfficiency on moving day isn’t just about speed, it’s about preparation. By decluttering in advance, clearing pathways, securing pets, finishing your packing, and communicating with your movers, you’ll make the process smoother for everyone involved. The result? Less stress, less wasted time, and a successful move into your new home with more money in your pocket.
